<Sun Jun 14 2009> Softpedia |
Deathbob |
| Well, someone submitted Background Pi to Softpedia. I would like to say thank you. I always find it good that people use your software and seem to like it. For being something that (*cough*) isn't really all that useful. But, I still think it's cool. I am working on getting a visual studio 2008 project for it and rearranging the files in the repo. Dev-C++ is so antiquated that I feel bad for having it there. I am looking to get a domain in the next few months, so we will see about that. I can hopefully very shortly afford it. I may look into some text only advertising to pay for it & possibly a dedicated server. I would have to rework the site to make a spot for it so I may only do advertising for my current project. Background Pi will continue to operate but I think I will need to drop the new version simply for two reasons.

<Mon Jun 8 2009> Server Rebuild |
Deathbob |
| The server will be rebuilt in the upcoming weeks. I'll give more details as it becomes available. Hopefully the site will be back up within the day but the background pi server may take longer as I will likely have to rebuild the binaries. In other news, Songbird List Sync is making progress. I hope to get login working tonight for revision 0.3. Ya, I know it worked in 0.1 but its being redone from scratch properly. 1.0 will be beautiful code. [0 Comments] |

| Well, I've found my 2009 resolution. Trim the fat. Yup, I'm 130 pounds and trimming the fat. Digital fat that is. I have TOO MANY projects (More than is on this site). So I need to slim it down and organize myself on that front. The Two projects I know I must maintain are: Background Compute Songbird: List Sync Extension (Making its first appearance since I started developing it a week ago.) Background Compute: Background Pi Plugin is not looking good. I'm thinking it will get put on the back burner for now. Have I mentioned I don't understand the math behind it? I'd like to hold off till I do because I think I could improve the implementation significantly if I did. Since I stopped developing BackPi v4 I hope no problems arise, the server will keep running and we'll just have to see. As for the rest, I need to look into it more. So I started developing a songbird extension since the inability to sync playlists pissed me off. Extensions are written in JavaScript which is weird. It is hard to think asynchronously as all network communication is asynchronous. Ah well, it's good practice. I just read how each time an apostrophe is misused God kills a kitten. So if I've done so here let me know so I can fix it. [2 Comments] |

<Sun Oct 26 2008> Well it seemed like a good idea at the time. |

| So i had a design of how plugins should interact with the rest of the application and implemented most of it, and it was there, and it was big. It was huge, I was handling much of how plugins worked to make sure they did what I wanted. After some time I started finding it to be restricting and bloated. It forced functionality onto plugins that may not have anything to do with computation (network communication for example). My new model that i'm throwing around and working on a new implementation of is an Interface meaning it wont be trying to do your job as much. There is a certain amount of stuff I have to keep track of, like is it loaded. This also has the advantage of nuking alot of Static items, a severe road block i was hitting. Anyway, I am working on the project but havn't/wont be committing till it "might" compile and work. I wonder/probably will rename Plugin to ProjectPlugin to be more specific, just in case any other type of plugin should come up in the future. Anyway, that's what's going on. This is taking a lot of time, more than I would have hoped for, but I like this because it would get me away from only computing PI and is a massive test of my skills. I have so many things I want to test on a broad scale and can't wait to finish this. [0 Comments] |

| To make sure we actually have goals and are slowly reaching them. I announce the new Mantis Bug Tracker. http://bugs.defcon1.hopto.org/ If from some weird reason you are running Background Compute. Please post there any problems you find. (You must create an account to post) [0 Comments] |
